    Project Name
: University of Louisville Residence Hall Dormitory Building

    Location: Louisville, KY
    Type of Building: New Construction
    Square Footage: +60,000

The project consisted of construction of a six-story building and basement
structure totaling over 60,000 square feet of floor area. The building
consisted of pre-cast hollow core floor planks, which were supported by
reinforced CMU walls. The roof was structural steel, wood truss and stick
frame construction. The perimeter walls were clad with 4” brick veneer
applied with banding and relief detailing. The roofing was asphalt shingle
construction and the windows were operable insulated aluminum units.
The plan dictated seven staggered modules each with step backs on the
upper levels. This created a complicated yet visually appealing cascade
effect for the structure. The building mechanical systems were concealed
in the structure and the heating and cooling were provided by a 3-pipe
chiller/boiler system. Interior finishes were designed to stand up to the
normal abuse inflicted by college students. Each living module consisted
of three or four rooms and a common bathroom and living room.
